Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race, by Reni Eddo-Lodge
British journalist, feminist, and all around bad ass, Reni Eddo-Lodge wrote this amazing book of essays. Though she writes about black British history, every American would do well to read this book. The topics and discussions are relevant and show that America isn’t the only place with structural racism. Eddo-Lodge defines and discusses white privilege as she gives many real-life examples that she’s experienced. She ultimately calls white people to action: to use her book as a tool for the hard discussions and to address their white privilege and take responsibility in fixing racial injustice. This book influenced me to commit to solving this issue and helped me understand that I can make a difference, starting with changing myself, then teaching my family, and then getting involved in any racial justice work I can get my hands on. And there is a lot!
